Objective 1. Validate the competencies
- Engage industry committee with representatives from manufacturers involved with: software, aerospace, automotive, appliance, heavy equipment/construction, military, etc.
- Identify competencies for technicians (associate degree graduates) and technologists (baccalaureate degree graduates) with respect to overarching the connections between functional disciplines.
- Develop assessment instruments to verify program (student) competencies.
- Field-test instrument.

Objective 2. Transferability between AS and BS programs
2.1 Identify skill sets for comprehensive design in AS and BS programs.
2.2 Identify differential skill set required for transfer between AS and BS programs. |

Objective 3. Develop an interdisciplinary comprehensive design program model
3.1 Map competencies from Objective #1 to existing curricula to identify gaps at the associate and baccalaureate levels
3.2 Develop interdisciplinary comprehensive design program for AS and BS degrees. Use adapt and adopt approach to jointly develop modules the equivalent of six, three-credit courses
3.3 Integrate comprehensive design curriculum into the existing academic program.
3.4 Develop integrated learning activites between partner institutions.
3.5 Create web-based course/module support materials
3.6 Create dedicated comprehensive design area within existing Center for Advanced Manufacturing at partner institutions |

Objective 4. Workforce training
4.1 Map skill sets identified in Objective #1 to previously developed modules for AS and BS programs. Identify differences between educational material for academic programs and industry needs.
4.2 Develop additional industry specific educational program for existing workforce development.
4.2 Offer workshops at partner institutions for local industry personnel
4.3 Identify additional funding opportunities to assist in program delivery, e.g. Department of Labor. |
Year 2-3 |
Objective 5. Reaching pre-college populations
5.1 Recruit students from tech prep programs Project Lead the Way, high schools, and vocational schools involved in SkillsUSA (with special emphasis on recruiting students from underserved populations)
5.2 Create comprehensive design Summer Camps
5.3 Create one-day awareness experiences
5.4 Implement outreach program via existing pre-college outreach programs at partner institutions |
